The problem:
The problem is actually very simple. Foreugn companies have been allowed to make products with cheap labor and then get away with now having to pay import fees that THEY make our companies pay to sell in their country therefor making other countries products cheap and availeble. People have financial problems and peopel are out of work and trying to make ends meet but they also don’t realilze that they have created much of this mess themselves.
People like to buy cheap products. Products have become cheaper and cheaper. It seems like everything is made of plasric and everythiing is made in China. Well, most of that is true. Now I have nothing against the Chinese people but I do have a problem with products that are unsafe and unhleathy for us. Carcinogens and harmfil cjemicals in our toothpaste, sheetrock, baby’s milk, etc…. So the products are cheap. That is good for the consumer who buys it but bad for our own American businesses, business owners, and American wokers. Each time you buy something made in another country, how much of that money is staying here? Think about it. And many times what you have bought is so cheaply made that it falls apart. What if you could buy something made in the United States that was of better quality? Wouldn’t that be good?
This started a long time ago. I remember when a Japanese company offered free tennis balls for the U.S. Open Tennis Tournament. I was a kid and asked my father, “Why would a company give what will probab;y be thousands if not hundred of thousands of tennis balls for free?” My father told me that was the way in which they will get into the market. Yes. And a great way indeed. So the Chinese have flooded our markets for decades with products so cheap, they’re almost free. And as each year went by, more and more Americans bought these cheap products. As each year went by, American companies lost money, fired workers, and some went out of business. Most if not all of that money also went out of our country (when people bough cheap products made in China). So if you are giving your money to other countries, squeezing our companies out of business, and thus eliminating jobs here in the United States… than yes, we have a crisis on our hands. A very big crisis.
Try to think of what America, The United States, is known for making? This is a very hard question to answer and a very painful one to ask. I have done this many times with friends and family. We used to amke TV’s, furnature, stereos, computers, clothes, and more. Now we are known for making movies and fast food. We aren’t even known for our service industry, which we used to be known for. I once went to a birthday party for my friend’s daughter. After a while I asked everyone where everything was made. Now I was very comfortable and am very close with these people. I would never try this conversation knowing where it was going with strangers. Everyone picked up a toy, telephone, answering machine, pen, printer, and anything that was in that room. They all said the same thing. Everything was made in China. Now this was ten years ago. Ten years ago. I have to repeat this because the more time goes by the more complacent people get and the more things become the norm. Imagine how much control other countries now have over us. They own our debt. What do we make? What do we create? What are we doing about it?
Wake up America! There are solutions and answers to all this. It might be possible for us to pull out of this and it might not be possible. I’m an optimist and think we can make a positive change in this country. But we have to believe in ourselves. We have to start now. We have to tell others and get them on board. And we have to realize that there ARE still Amrican companies selling products made in the U.S.A. There are still services offered from Americans. And the more we buy products with that great label “Made in The U.S.A.”, the more demand there will be for more products made here in the United States and therefore more jobs.
